Dream Incubation Prompts

Updated: Jun 9

Did you know you can influence the contents of your dreams based on what you communicate to your unconscious mind before you drift into sleep?

Not only can you "request" certain things, you can also ask for answers to problems. Countless people have reported receiving answers to difficult questions or situations they wern't able to solve with their conscious mind. Many famous musicians, poets, artists, authors, and inventors have used this technique too as inspiration to brilliant works of art and innovation.

Here are the steps to incubating your own awe inspiring dreams:

  1. Consider your intention. What do you want to see/experience/know?

  2. Write it down to make the intention clear.

  3. Hold the question or prompt in your mind as you fall asleep

  4. Keep the journal by your bed and write down the dream immediately upon waking

  5. This can be done during a nap or during a full night's sleep.

  6. If you're working with a specific problem, you can practice this technique sitting upright in a chair. In that moment when you fall asleep and nod your head, you'll wake up quickly - often with the answer!

You can make up your own, but here are some prompts to get you started:

  • Mind, show me the most beautiful city/landscape/planet

  • What is the most important thing for me to know about myself in my personal growth journey?

  • I am flying over an incredible landscape at sunrise

  • I am breathing and seeing clearly under moonlit water

  • How can I mend my relationship with this friend/family member?

  • In what way can I connect more meaningfully with God/Source/the Divine?

  • Show me the best person I could be; my highest self.

Keep a journal of the whole process. Write down the dreams even if they don't make sense right away. Later in the day, you may realize how the dream you received is the exact right answer to your question after all!
